Matthew 22:15-22
Whether it is lawful to pay taxes for a Pharisee or a Herodian is one thing; the two groups, though opposed to one another, found a means to entrap a fellow that both sides deemed a threat. The greater issue at play is not whether it is necessary to pay taxes, but rather, as we honor the emperor, to honor God above all. We honor God by rendering to Him what is His; you are His and made in His image. If you are a believer, you have been bought by the precious blood of Christ; how can man reborn in Christ neglect to give to God the whole of his being? Render unto God what is God’s!
